No two patients are the same when it comes to dentures or esthetic procedures. That is why Dr. Ronald Chalk approaches each case individually, discussing options and expectations in a private consultation. His thorough approach ensures optimal denture fit and patient satisfaction.
Prior to completing new permanent dentures, Dr. Chalk provides trial dentures. A "functional impression" is made while the patient wears the trial dentures. This functional impression records the individual patient's bone and tissue support while chewing food, so the final product can be tailored to their specific needs. Various arrangements and positions of the dentures determine which the patient likes the best. Once the patient approves the fit and appearance of the trial dentures, the permanent complete dentures are fabricated.
Some patients may be satisfied with the appearance of their dentures but notice that the fit has become loose. The functional impression technique allows Dr. Chalk to create a fit similar to a new denture. After teeth have been missing for several years, the supporting bone will atrophy. When this occurs, spaces develop between the tissue and the denture. A reline will fill all the spaces so that the denture and supporting tissue are in contact once again. Despite obtaining the best fit possible through these methods, the lower denture often doesn't have the solidity most patients would like. If finances permit, two or more dental implants dramatically improve the stability and retention of a lower denture.
The most important appointment for a patient who is missing all their teeth is the initial exam and consultation. Dr. Chalk devotes the time to obtain helpful information about the patient's condition and needs. This information includes the following:
Dr. Chalk has attended many excellent continuing education seminars focused on dentures. Fitting a patient with complete dentures is one of the more challenging aspects of dental care, and communication between the dentist and patient is vital for the process. After studying complete denture techniques from outstanding clinicians in the field, Dr. Chalk has developed a unique method that he believes will best serve his patients.
